Foster-to-Adopt Program

What does it mean to Foster-to-Adopt?

We like to give our potential adopters the option of fostering-to-adopt.  Fostering-to-adopt allows you to essentially “try” your new pet out for a one week trial period to see if he/she is a good fit.  There will of course be those of you who know right away that this is the dog for you.  Then there are those of you who need a little bit more than a weeks time.  All we ask is that you let us know.  We will not process the adoption until you finalize it with us.  Once finalized, you will receive 30 days of pet insurance and the microchip will be registered.

To participate in our Foster-to-Adopt Program, you first must fill out an application for the dog of interest.  Then we will process the application, perform our vet/reference checks and will inform you of your approval status, typically within a few days.  Then, a FWFP representative will be in touch with you to discuss the specific dog as well as the details of our process.  We will also answer any questions that you may have at the time.  At this point  it is up to you!  If the dog is offered, you may choose to adopt or foster-to-adopt.

To proceed with the foster-to-adopt, you will receive a “Foster-to-Adopt Contract”.  This is a legally binding document that establishes the dog as still belonging to FWFP, making you the temporary foster home.  We required a $250 deposit on all of our foster-to-adopt dogs, which is completely refundable if you end up deciding that the dog may not be a good fit for you and your family.  If you choose to proceed with the adoption, the initial deposit of $250 will go towards your adoption fee.  At that point we will go ahead and process the adoption and send you an email that confirms your adoption, fee donation,  as well as microchip and adoption information.

Please understand our foster homes are EXTEMELY limited and we primarily send out animals who have a place to go, either a foster home or a foster-to-adopt (potential adopter), so if you decide this isn’t the dog for you within the one week time frame, it is essential that you let us know as quickly as possible and also be willing to hold onto the dog until we can find placement for him/her.  This process may be a day or so but could take up to a week, so please be patient with us.  We are only volunteers.
